Billy CorganAlbum: The Future Embrace

Do you remember the Smashing Pumpkins and their dark wonderful music? They were one of the rock’s top dogs in the mid 90is and their influence still is recognizable if you watch, for example, videos of The Killers. The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most popular alternative psychedelic rock groups. They placed songs in movies like Lost Highway or Batman & Robin. But they broke up in the year 2000.

And here he is again, delighted singer and songwriter Billy Corgan. His solo album is called TheFutureEmbrace and it is a big progress for Corgan. “It’s easy to be negative in ones life, but it’s much more difficult to find the beauty of modern life behind the clouds!” Corgan, who was born in 1967 in Elk Grove, IL, made his first experiences in music through his father, who was a blues guitarist. After his parents divorced when he was 14, he began playing guitar himself. His first band was a goth metal group called the Marked. Still his biggest success so far were the Smashing Pumpkins.

Corgan always has been a searching character. In this album he seems to have developed his point of view. The opening song ‘All Things Change’ might show his deep trust and hope in the future. In the first single of the album ‘walking shade’, Corgan presents himself full of self-consciousness: “I’m walking shade, to brush these fires aside, to calm the rising fight, to build you a new life”. And in the song ‘Mina Loy (M.O.H.)’, he asks “can I give my old heart to you?”. Corgan counts not on a band’s structure anymore. He mixes drum machine with traditional instruments and also computer files. But his unforgettable voice presents his beautiful songs he wrote himself, as well as the Bee Gees cover version of ‘to love somebody’, which excellently fits into the structure of this beautiful album with unforgettable songs!
